Homework:
On our class website (www.cisegrade8.weebly.com) you will find a link that you can use to sign up for our class homework reminder messaging system. You can join the group using a code when you download the Remind App (class code: grade8ea1) or you can enter your email by clicking on the link found on the homework page. This is a quick messaging system that allows the students to receive reminders from me each night of what the homework is, what the schedule is for the following day, as well as any other reminders that will help them be prepared for school.
What’s Happening in Class:
Literacy - Students will complete their diagnostic reading test this week to determine what level they are currently working at for reading comprehension.
Math - Students will be finishing their review of adding and subtracting integers and start to investigate how to multiply and divide integers.
Science - students will complete lab experiments this week that will help them understand the water cycle above ground, the water cycle below ground, and how runoff occurs on land surfaces. This lesson was moved due to the Armed Forces Day last week.
Geography - Students will continue to explore the different types of communities that are found in settlements: rural, urban, and suburban. They will also start to learn about where communities locate (site and situation).
Physical Education - Students have been focusing on understanding the components of fitness and swimming. We have started our classes with the PE coaches who have been hired by the school to help with the program. During these classes I am participating with the students so I am still able to provided individual support as well as properly assess the students for their skills and participation. Students will be swimming this Tuesday.
Health - Students will be analyzing fast food menus for their nutrition value.
Drama - students continue to focus on learning various warm-ups and games that introduce them to the different elements of drama.
Dance - students have been working on a project where they are researching different aspects of a dance genre. Students have chosen to do the assignment either on their own, in pairs, or groups of 3-4. These assignments will be due next week.
Arabic - the Arabic department provides the students with a schedule for each week of what they should be completing for homework. This is posted in the class and will be posted on the Arabic page on our class website each week.
As always, if there are any questions or concerns about what is happening in our class please do not hesitate to contact me at the school, send a note with your child, or send an email.
Have a great week!
